Qualifying applicants to the Safelink Wireless program will have the option of choosing from three different free government cell phone plans. Below is a summary of the three plans currently available from Safelink Wireless.

Users are free to purchase additional minutes to increase their monthly talk time limits. Talk time cards can be purchased at CVS, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Kmart, Radio Shack, Rite Aid stores, Target, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and online from Safelink Wireless.

How Do You Qualify for Safelink Wireless?
In most states, there are two methods to qualify for Safelink Wireless. The first method to qualify for Safelink Wireless requires that you presently participate in one or more of the following public assistance programs: Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), National Free School Lunch, Federal Housing/Section 8 Assistance, or certain state public assistance programs. Please check your state’s specific public assistance program qualifying list to determine the exact requirements.
Some states also allow a Safelink Wireless applicant to qualify under household income guidelines. The exact figures may vary from state to state, but generally households that earn below the federal poverty guidelines and up to 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines are eligible for the Safelink Wireless program. Below You will find the 135% figures for the Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2012. In order to calculate the 150% figures for Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas multiple the numbers below by 1.11.

These requirements change from time to time. So it is best to check with your state’s specific eligibility requirements before applying to the Safelink Wireless program.
The last two requirements for qualifying for a Safelink Wireless free government cell phone is that only one Lifeline Assistance phone is allowed per household. So if you or a household member currently subscribes to Assurance Wireless, Reachout Wireless, Safelink Wireless, or use a Lifeline Assistance land line, you can not qualify for a free Safelink Wireless cell phone.
The last requirement to obtain a free government cell phone Safelink Wireless is that you must apply from a valid US mailing address. No post office box may be used in your application form. Unfortunately, homeless people will have difficulty meeting this requirement. We advise homeless people to contact Safelink Wireless to see if there is any other way in which they can meet the home residence requirement.
